CODY COPE RAISES
RESERVE GRAND-CHAMPION HOG
As a 4-H member of one year, I
have started to love everything about the 4-H community.
What really in-spired me to start raising a hog is my
childhood dream to live on a farm. When I was born on the
Eastern shore of Maryland, my family lived on a farm. When I
was five months old, my family sold the farm. When I got
older I was told stories of my dad living on his farm as a
boy, and what it was like when my family lived on our farm
in Maryland. When I was a young boy (1-4 yrs.), I could be
found playing with my huge farm set, lining up the trac-tors,
combines, and farm animals galore, even though I missed out
on living on a farm.
Since I loved the farm so much, you
may ask why I didn’t consider 4-H before this? Well, that
is easy: be-ing the youngest of four boys you tend to follow
in their paths and that is what I did. Now, I am not only a
4-H member, but also a member of Faith Lutheran Church,
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life and I partici-pate
in Charlotte High School Wrestling, and Football.
Well, enough about me, it is time
to discuss Millie. When I bought her, I was the 10 th
pick and I
thought that I would not get a very good hog. But, I knew
that Millie was special at first glance. She had great hams,
the definition of the dimple was just amazing, and if you
dropped a marble on her back it would roll all the way down
her back until it fell. From that moment until now, Millie
has been a gentle well behaved hog. She is also very smart.
I am so proud of her progress and how much we have gone
through together. Millie is an awesome hog and has so much
to offer.
